Carter's Paintball Update - 12/05/2007 It's December already? Happy Hanukkah as today is the start of it. I could have sworn it is usually closer to Christmas... HEADLINES ---------------- 1. FN Browning releases "68 Caliber Airgun" for non-lethal applications - While not available to the public, a review is up at MCB already. 2. Palmer's has a new pump gun out. Check it out at palmer-pursuit.com 3. AGD sold their old domain airgun.com and can now be found at: airgundesignsusa.com 4. APG just featured a great story about EMR's Pump Pandemonium IV in their January issue. Just a quick mention of yours truly in it, I didn't get my picture in though... Probably took one look at my ugly mug and figured it would be best for all their readers to not be exposed to that. MCB Notes ---------------- 1. It looks like the MCB Therapy Group is going over better than expected. It's always good to get something off your chest. 2. For MCB Users and Others, Topbidr.com is up and running well. Not 100% completed but the Ebay Auction Sniper is working just fine! 3. Changes for MCB coming. We're going to be changing the way the paintball news is brought to you and what is shown on the front page. More to come. 4. Our MCB Demographic survey was a big hit. Thank you all who participated in it. Results are now online in text and a graphical interface. 5. Ads on MCB? I'm still unsure. e-mail me and let me know what you think. We're growing so fast I'm thinking we'll need a second server for database hosting, etc... Also, I'm going to start hiring folks to help out next year. If you have some free time (for simple stuff really) and want to make some extra cash, drop me a line... 2008 will be rolling in, and I want to be rolling with it. Have you SEEN the prices these have been going for as of late? I thought $350 was high only 4 years ago. Now $450 seems to be the norm if not higher. You collectors sure like your KP-2's. Any why not? What other gun has a wood stock (aside from the obvious Palmers), that lets you stand out at your local field and be known. Those that currently own them. You have made a sound investing decision. That $15.00 K2 that I passed back in high school is coming back to kick me now! BETCHA DIDN'T KNOW??? ---------------------- That LAPCO changed their name to PCI, and back to LAPCO again somewhere in the early to mid 90's. I'm not sure when or how, but I'm tracking down more information on it. I'll I have as proof is written text confirming the name change, and some Grey Ghost pump arms with PCI engraved in the side. While I've never seen a Ghost or Wrath with PCI on it, I now own proof that one may exist, or that they were thinking of doing it. Carter's Paintball Update Edition 7 - 10/31/07 So, it's been a while since the last one went out. Sorry about that. Work got crazy and I've been building a new site. If official that the alpha version of my online ebay bid sniping program is up and running. I'll be opening it up for beta testers by next week so folks can play around with it. It's built to be extremely simple, non-flashy, but effective. It is effective, and just won me my first auction this morning. Look out ebay. MCBers are coming at you in full force. Smart Parts is releasing some new guns. The SP1 - Which looks like a tactical style Ion. It's not an Ion, but similar. 2. Dye is releasing a new Proto gun, the Proto ULG (Ultra Light Gun), which has a single tube design. 3. The Patent Litigation Fund has been opened. This is a non-profit organization that will assist paintball companies in fighting the onslaught of generic patents that has plagued our industry as of late. Team Carter's Commando and myself got a mention in the latest issue of APG for our part at EMR's Pump Pandemonium IV 5. The Redux (Desert Duck - DD 68 Remake gun) has finally been released and put into production. Smart Parts' latest patent is for a: GRIP ROUTED GAS SUPPLY FOR A PAINTBALL GUN. In layman's terms, a gas through grip. Carter's Paintball Update Edition 6 - 09/26/07 I so need a vacation. Heading out to EMR tomorrow. Getting there early on Thursday to work on the Commando deck Thursday night and Friday. Here's to hoping the all my guns will work in the New Milford Triangle. It's been an evil week for me. Internet was down at home from Friday morning to Tuesday. I've got a cold to boot, and have been working double time to get things ready at work so I can leave Thursday morning. Basically, I did a poor job collecting news. Sorry folks. HEADLINES ---------------- 1. Pro-Team receives patent grant for locking feedneck 2. MQ Valve went on sale, and sold out the entire lot in very short order, 20 minutes to be exact. 3. EMR has 573 confirmed pre-regs for the Fall Castle game. Should be a 700 - 900 man game. 4. NPPL KC Event ends in a tie? Impact and Ironmen forgo the tie breaker and both take first place... Spectators boo'd. Will the Canadian Contingent and the Carter's Commando team hold the Castle with Blue and Craig Palmer by their side? Tune in to mcarterbrown.com to find out. Carter's Paintball Update Edition 5 - 09/19/07 What can I say, not much going on in the world of paintball this week. I've caught a bit of a cold as the weather up here in NH has turned. Also, playing paintball now more then ever. Basically trying to get it all in before I'm stuck playing indoors at Boston Paintball. While it's a nice place, it's just the same field over and over. Usually by the time winter is over, I'm ready to play somewhere else. HEADLINES ---------------- 1. Looks like CCM has a new pump. The series 5 Basic. Posted a quick From The Attic on youtube and mcbtv.com last week. Purchased a magnetic kit off of ebay for my DP Fusion. Sort of a how to on installation. Not sure if it made a huge difference, but it was fun to do none-the-less. 3. Just finished my review of the Threshold. Posting it on the website and on YouTube/mcbtv/the like, this Friday. Look for it then. 4. Looks like another small MCB outing at Adventure Games of NH this Saturday. We had a nice inpromptu showing last week. Let's see if we can do it again. 5. GUN OF THE WEEK --------------------- Icon Splatmaster - More about it below BETCHA DIDN'T KNOW??? ---------------------- Now this is long, but very interesting... Written by HP_Lovecraft on the research of the ICON Splatmaster: "Icon" was the same company as National Survival Games. The difference was the "Icon" brand were specifically marketed for POLICE and SECURITY training. Bob Gurnsey changed the name, and marketing to disassociate paintball with police training. The Icon Splatmasters were sold from 85-88 to LEO only. NSG owned the trademark for both "Splatmaster" and "Icon". NSG also sold the .55 version through another brandname "Gurn-Z" as a safer replacement to bb-guns. Years later in 1991. Montneel originally picked Icon Designs as the company name, and "Z" as the gun name. NSG threatened to sue since they already trademarked the name "Icon". So they changed the name of the company to Montneel. Then in 1993, they started using the name Icon-Z for there gun. By that time, NSG had collapsed, so they didn't worry about being sued. Montneel originally had Bullseye as a distributor, but after suing each other out of business, Montneel switched to Gino at NPS. Then in 1994, the deal with NPS went "bad", and Montneel ripped up there distribution contract. Gino, in retaliation, bought the trademark of "Icon" from Bob Gurnsey, and then had the Montneel Z gun cloned, and copied in China. And with the trademark in hand, sold it as the NPS Icon-Z! Fortunetly, the NPS Icon-Z (1994) was a peice of crap, and didn't last long. But as they owned the trademark, they renewed it to use with its latest Spyder clones called the (ahem) Icon-Z. So the latest 32-Degrees Icon-E has an odd connection all the way back to Bob Gurnsey and the beginning of paintball..... Carter's Paintball Update Edition 4 - 09/12/07 Wow... Real busy today. Crazy at work, work server change over... FTP upload to MY server was not working due to a firewall issue on my work computer. On the good side of life: The Italian sausage with onions and peppers I just had really hit the spot. So let's see what we have this week... HEADLINES ---------------- 1. This is big: New production DD68 - Desert Ducks by Earon Carter. Also the Box guns, mini-comp and more. Check out www.cartermachine.com for more. The guns are not for sale yet, but says they will be soon, possibly this fall. More information as I get it. 2. Rap4 just released their 22 inch "sniper" barrel. 3. EMR posted their 2008 schedule already. April 26/27 - Spring Castle, Aug 2/3 - Pump Pandemonium IV, SEP 27/28 BIG 4 CASTLE CONQUEST XXVI as a notable few 4. Speaking of EMR, over 400 pre-regs for this Fall Castle game. Looks to be a good number. Pre-registration ends this Friday! Hurry up if you haven't already. 5. Registration ended for the NPPL Super 7 Kansas City. Who's going and can someone take a few photo's for the site? PM me if you can. 6. Speaking of NPPL; Grandstand tickets for the Kansas City indoor event are available online at www.nppl.com 7. The H-8 Tactical Rifle is creeping ever so closer to completion. Can't wait to review this puppy. MCB NOTES -------------- 1. Got to take the Dangerous Power Threshold out for a test drive this weekend. What a gun, is all I can say. Final review to be posted shortly. 2. Needing to admin my DOT move of the week. I was originally frustrated at the Threshold when it wouldn't work properly. SOMEBODY forgot to turn up the velocity and took him FAR TOO long to realize that was the issue. (after replacing the batter, lubing, putting back together, changing paint... Yeah... DOT). 3. I'm still planning on a Deck Building Party on Friday, for the EMR Fall Castle event. I'm bringing wood, nails/screws, and whatever else I can think of. If you wish to help out, let me know you're going to be there. 4. Blackrain on the site is making his own grenades for playing. After recently posting a video of them in action, I'll be picking up a few. 5. And the argument rages on about the next must have collectible gun. GUN OF THE WEEK --------------------- WDP Angel V6 - This was prior to the Angel LED. This gun only had a simple on/off switch. I personally put this gun right up there with the PVI Shocker as a must own collectible in the paintball world. BETCHA DIDN'T KNOW??? ---------------------- The Rebel executive was the only paintball gun to be marketed and sold in a business briefcase, with accessories that ranged from a rat attack quick changer, barrel extension, and even an AGD Sharpshooter sight. Toombs II, of the Cooper-T fame, has passed away recently at the age of 65. Known for his "If it's not red, it's not right" saying, and all his upgraded parts being anodized red. His undershot bolts will always be wanted. Chauncey Toombs Jr, will be keeping the Cooper T website up and running. 4. Spyder Cup 2007 is being hosted at Boston Paintball. Cash prizes. Real Action Paintball (RAP4) announced their release of the Tippmann X7 series paintball markers. These Tippmann X7s come in three different Real Action Paintball configurations designed especially for your style of play: the CQB model, Carbine and Sniper. 9. Long time member AmericanPaintball, had his store in Rose City, MI robbed, and Palmer Markers where those on the list of missing items. Spyder is proud to announce the appointment of a new distributor in Brazil for Spyder products. Mercenarios Paintball will be the exclusive distributor of the full line of Spyder paintball markers and accessories such as the 30 BPS Fasta Loader, the new VS Tadao Board, and many other great products. 6. Palmer's can now fill HPA tanks. They've upgraded their system with a 4800 psi compressor. They'll also fill SCUBA tanks if Craig is on duty. Very cool! 7. The H8 Tactical Rifle (H8TR) moves closer to completion with the final parts in Alaska awaiting customs clearance. 8. And a gift from the MCB crowd, was just retouched up so the 3 1/2 oz in stock bottle now fits and works properly. I'm going to give this a first run test this weekend. Tippmann Sports Acquires Atomic Ordnance Paintball Grenade Business 2. Dangerous Power releases the Threshold marker. This is to be their "tournament grade" gun. Only being released to sponsored teams, and limited to 500 currently. 3. Charles Nelson creator of Nelson markers dead at age 92 4. EMR had a few defender spots left for the Fall Castle. Hurry if you still want a spot. 5. Blue (of EMR) was asking how people felt about having TANKS in certain scenario games. I smell some interesting things afoot. Nothing concrete, he's just getting people's reactions to having one right now. 6. NPPL event in MO, will have their center court held indoors at Kemper Arena. PTP (Pro Team Products) was awarded patent number 7,231,911, entitled Assisted Trigger Mechanism. The application was originally filed in November of 2000. Think mechanical pneumatic. I just received the gun (for the second time) in the mail. BretG's once again came through and touched up... Ok... He truly fixed up this gun and now I plan on putting it to good use. I can't wait to try this out in a game. I wanted to re-thank everyone that made this gun happen and made it possible. Tippmann Sports Acquires Atomic Ordnance Paintball Grenade Business 2. Dangerous Power releases the Threshold marker. This is to be their "tournament grade" gun. Only being released to sponsored teams, and limited to 500 currently. 3. Charles Nelson creator of Nelson markers dead at age 92 4. EMR had a few defender spots left for the Fall Castle. Hurry if you still want a spot. 5. Blue (of EMR) was asking how people felt about having TANKS in certain scenario games. I smell some interesting things afoot. Nothing concrete, he's just getting people's reactions to having one right now. 6. NPPL event in MO, will have their center court held indoors at Kemper Arena.
