In the similarity of this story, I was once playing some walk on speed-ball a few years back and was using my PMI-1 at the time. The round was almost over and there was one kid left behind the very back bunker, so I went to surrender him since I knew it was a young kid and didn't want the other players on my team to get there first and dump a bunch of paint on him.

I ran up, and was shocked to find two kids hiding behind the bunker and in that split-second accidentally shot the second one as I was surrendering the first. Only one round of course, barely shooting 220, but I immediately apologized to the kid I shot because I hit him from such close range (in the leg if I remember right).

It's not exactly the same as this, but it's that same concept of "holy crap" and reacting on instinct rather than by doing what you intended to do.

The guy may have intended to surrender you, but in the heat of running up reacted as though he expected you to shoot him anyways. Like I said before, sh*t happens.
