I've know Brian and Kelly for 5-6 years now. They are good people going through a difficult time with their new son. NICU cost is 5-10K a day. This little guy is probably going to be a $1,000,000 Baby. If the insurance covers 80-90% of that ... well you do the math. He didn't ask for help, help was offered by the local PB community.
Here is a comment from Brian I clipped from the UMS Forum.

I asked Jared from Bad Karma to clarify it in their write up but I just want to get clear on 1 thing...Kelly has insurance and they are agreeing to simply add him to hers. As long as they follow through then it will "only" be a percentage of the bill that I need to cover.
As for Robert, he's doing well. He's been in the NICU for almost 2 months at this point. We don't know when we get to bring him home yet but we hope it will be soon. He's up to 4lbs 11oz (+2lbs since he was born) and he's in an open crib. He's taking full feeds by mouth (he's been on a feeding tube most of his young life) and his O2 needs are minimal to none.
The 2 things that worry me right now are that he's just getting over a suspected case of "NEC" (some of you medical guys could explain this much better than I) where we narrowly escaped needing surgery. Things look good as he was cleared to start eating again on Christmas Day but they need to keep an eye on it. The other is that he has "SVT's" which are episodes where his heart starts racing (sometimes over 300bpm). They say they don't hurt him and that he will most likely outgrow them but they did a full check on his heart to be safe and everything came back great. |
