Scotch is great but whiskey in general is a art. I spent the christmas before last with friends comparing different whiskeys all week. Crown Royal was deemed best of the cheap whiskey (not that cheap though). Glenlivet over Glennfiddich. Jameson as your entry good and cheap whiskey.

Best whiskeys are to try scotch's, Irish whiskeys (Jameson is a nice beginner) and canadian whiskey's. The whiskey from Canada's east coast are very much in a classic scotch tradition, so much they have been court cases (which failed) over the use of glen in the name. Rye whiskey's are underrated as most are not true rye whiskeys (and generally considered as cheap do to their blended nature) however Gibson's has the only true all rye whiskey which I must say is exquisite.

Try some Gibson's. Get the 18 or the very expensive blends for something different.
