I more meant your adding of the water than the neglect.
And Lagavulin 16 is sort of like a much, much,
much easier drinking version of Laphroaig 10. I prefer the Laphroaig, but keep the Lagavulin around for more civilized company. Laphroaig 15 or 30 are both much more drinkable, but are also smoky/briny/peaty relative to other, non-Islay (aside from Bunnahabhain, which really reminds me of Glenlevit 12) scotches. Ardbeg is a lot like Lagavulin (to me, at least) but at about half the price.

Anyone who wastes Laphroaig 10 - or any other 10 year single malt - for cooking deserves to be gut-shot with a .45 and pumped full of rock salt slurry :P
