stole my thoughts! i wouldnt mind one giant stone Castle to keep the mobs out.
and to whoever was asking, they will attack lit places, but they wont spawn there. they only spawn in a 5 block grid from the spawner.
so, i found a FAST way to convert an image into grid format (minus some fine tuning)
1) get the image you want
2) open it with Paint and enable grids
3) resize to the pixel height you want (i wanted a 20-block high flag, so 20px)
4) zoom in and edit until it looks right.
5) profit
i enlarged this so i could see the grids better when i was done:
