BMI is a useless number. It can't distinguish lean from fat mass. A really muscular person would appear over weight, and a "thin" person who has very little lean mass would appear underweight/correct weight. It can give you a broad idea only if you know your body fat percentage, which is hard to measure on your own. My results on various tests for body fat usually range from 3%-12%. Realistically I'm probably 6-8%.
Honestly, a couple mirrors are your best friend for this.
