Gaffer tape is used by Gaffers in film and TV. It's generally a matte black finish. The glue is much better thank Duct / Duck tape and comes off clean. It's "just right" for a lot of applications...like, it's perfect for taping two AK-47 magazines together.

A hell of a lot more expensive... the gaff tape we use around the church is about $15 a roll...
But, yeah. The time saved not scraping glue off the floor or wall after an event is well worth it.
