If you do swim, you HAVE to stretch before you swim. I swam nonstop from middle-high school, and by my junior and senior years of high school I had completely toasted my shoulders because I had not properly warmed up. I've dislocated each of my shoulders 3 times while swimming and I have difficulty throwing things because my shoulder rolls itself.

That said, swimming certainly helped out, I lost 30 pounds in two months with a diet shift and lots of swimming a couple years ago, so as long as you're smart about it, it's the best thing out there.
