I used to own a pair of Dye or Proto C6 pants. They were durable and kept the paint off whatever clothes you had underneath but they were HEAVY. Think "5 lbs" heavy. Despite some ventilation, they would still make pretty good snowmobiling pants - they're VERY thick and it's easy to overheat in them.

These days, I wear either khaki cargo pants in quick-dry material or something resembling BDU's (CADPAT pattern.) I'm only getting hit once, if at all, but I have to wear my pants all day. I just don't find typical speedball pants comfortable. Khakis are great.

BTW: I have a pair of khakis with zippers that open up "slots" in front of the knees for adding knee padding. (!)
