| I used just old Automag springs.
Automag owners would often get a new spring every year, and throw away the old ones. But they worked perfectly fine in the VM.
If you see an automag owner at your local field, as him if he has any old springs. Maybe offer $1-2.
The process is pretty simple. Take your hammer, and remove the white "bumper".
Then to keep the cocking knob assembly on, just replace that long screw with a shorter screw.
Drop in the automag spring, and thats it.
To make it FPS adjustable, just added washers behind the spring. (I liked to use nickels. They fit perfectly). To make it "field ajdustable", drill a small hole into the lower plug, amd thread for a 1/4" screw.
When you turn the turn, it will push against the nickel, and spring, which adds tension, and increases FPS.
I'm not sure if it really had any benefits. I said it did in my VM-FAQ, but that was 12 years ago, and I'm sceptical now. However, it does allow you to do a halfback mod
