I first discovered these fancy new paintball grenades after one of the Mercenary membership returned with one from Operation Market Garden at Tactik Paintball in Quebec.......props to Steve of Tactik and Ghost who introduced them with a full 45 minute lecture on safety training pertaining to their usage, they look pretty cool huh?.......but......
I am now seeing them for sale in several areas of the paintball world......and that same safety message is not accompanying the sales....let me be perfectly frank...these grenades carry a paint gel pack or smoke etc etc and are set off with a 22 calibre charge. Now although its just a blank....the percentage chance of injury without proper safety training opens some pretty serious consequences should it inadvertently go off as otherwise intended...at a recent game 1 in 3 were duds...and I also noted one go off by simply rolling off the display table.....if it goes off in ones hand....or without the proper paintball gear on the results could be disastrous.....not to mention so many kids who are involved in this game who are not mature enough to use something like this device wisely.
I am not altogether happy to see them for sale and would ask those with a more intimate knowledgeable of the inner workings of this grenade (I classify it as an actual firearm) to please post up your safety warnings and thoughts.
.....if a bad incident were to occur...and that likelihood is very strong from what I have seen and understood, then it is just another nail in the coffin of scenario paintball as we know it......it is in fact a very real concern and should be for all of us that enjoy this sport
