Also, make sure your paint isnt too loose in the clips. The issue here is that sometimes a paintball will jump out of the clip and manage to get a little ways down the barrel before the gun is fired. If its far enough along, there wont be enough back pressure to trip the pawl and index the next round.
Barring that, make sure that pawl is nice and squeaky clean, and will return to its rest position under its own spring force. Check that by just pushing on it, if it snaps back, its good. If its kind of gummy or wont return by itself, you need to clean it out or replace the pawl spring.
