The channel does extends that far. I don't have any instrument to measure it, but it doesn't seem any thinner than the mid-section with the "FREAK" cutout and vents, and due to the ridge that locks the twist-lock, the thinnest portion is minimal. (I am looking at the SS version.) I can't imagine it ever being a problem. Had you heard it was?
