I made a submersible camera housing a while back out of an old ammo can. Probably not what you're looking for, but I'll post anyway.
Find an ammo can with the weather sealing still in it. Cut out a side large enough to put your lens in front of. Cut a piece of lexan large enough to overlap that gap. Use a sealant and rivets to hold the lexan to the ammo can. Let it cure, and it's basically an ammo can with a window.
I cut a piece of plywood with a scroll saw to fit inside the box. I drilled a hole in the middle and put a 1/4x20 screw and nut on to hold the camera in place.
You can dunk it, leave it in the rain, shoot paintballs at it, etc. I used it to hide in a bunker with a camera rolling for a video I was making a while back. Worked well.
You have to set your settings before hand, but then you can leave an electronic timer inside which works well for timelapses.
