Trend line is the average slope of the graph, which can range from a "good guess" to a mathematically precise calculation with series of rules to limit the effect of random outliers.
Wouldn't mind seeing more data behind that, simply because I've seen more than a few charts and numbers on investments prove to be absolute bull over the years. (Some businessmen REALLY hate when they're stuck in a room with someone who has taken a course in statistics.)
