BIG problem with that statement. A transistor doesn't carry out an operation. What it does is either block or allow current to flow from drain to source. It's an on/off switch. How that turns on or off depends on the transistor type.
The news is that they can make a very small transistor. Okay, so? Moore's law is going to take a leap now that they've discovered this new kind of transistor. They still can't build a true positronic matrix like in Star Trek that is capable of intelligent and autonomous thought. It can try and mimic it, yes, but actually emulate it? Nope. And I know that they never will be able to do it. It takes something MORE than just a neurological computer to make a human actually human. It takes a soul. Creating THAT is something we can NEVER do. Only God can do that. |
It did go on to say that that now the function is either 0 or 1, which is on, off. So evidently, this thing can do 16 x 1 more operations, so it can do 16 but then when coupled with the other 4 just like it, they claim it can do 4 to the 16th power. I don't think a soul is necessary for thinking on the basis that we have a lot of souls out there that don't think.
