I get what you are saying, Jimmy, but I can see some benefit to the relative flexibility of the Z bracket. I have, to my knowledge, never had a whack or a bump take a Hurc out of tune in a game, even the Hurc that I basically broke in two continued to shoot and eliminate opponents.
On the other hand, I have gotten some Hurcs in need of restoration that just needed a little bend of the malleable brass bracket. Bending the trigger bits makes me more nervous. That pot metal can be brittle and some of those welds...
Placing the switch horizontally might well permit both a more solid mount and a certain flexibility (simply unscrew it?) depending on the trigger mechanism.

PS: I agree with NSD2's evaluation of the Squallicane. Hurcs want paint so they can shoot it. The more paint and air you feed your Hurc, the happier she will be.
