I think the '03s are thought to have less problems than the '04s. There were some issues with the ball detents/bolt positioning on the '04s that caused chopping with forcefed loaders. This is pretty much a non-issue now since there are many different fixes for this. There is also an issue with the older SCMs on the '04s. The lpr would creep easily on the SCM 1s and 2s. I beleive the SCMIII does not. This is also a non issue now since you can upgrade an older style to a 3. These 2 issues give some an impression that the '03 models are superior to the '04s.

Personally, I am very happy with my '04. It has not chopped paint without any of the fixes. My SCM2 creeps when it gets a bit dirty, but the reg is real easy to clean. I may upgrade to a 3 in the future, but I really don't see a need
