If the crack developed fist, as it likely did, then the threads of the stronger material would stay intact. So when the crack went across, and the lower threads all of a sudden weren't helping to hold the reg on anymore, the increased force on the top part of the threads increased, thus ripping the threads out. In this case, the threads on the tank, being the lesser material. I don't think the real problem here lies with the threads.

regs have been made of aluminum for a long time now. I know even my air america armageddon is made of aluminum. The crossfire regs, myths, nitro duck ireg, cp's, all aluminum regs.
