| Except for a good mask, paintball specific clothing is not necessary. The responses to this thread indicate that people play in all sorts of outfits... beaters, shorts, speedos.
Ok, I don't know about that last one, but my point is: it's a good idea to wear protective gear, but other than a mask, what you wear is up to you.
Side note: this one time, the manager of my local field asked me if I was wearing a cup, and I replied "yep, I wear one every time." He was really upset with me because he was trying to reassure some kids with rentals that they did not need a cup to play paintball. He was pissed at his poor timing asking me about this topic and then started grilling me about when I have ever been shot in that area. Honestly, I don't know that I have, but I want to be ready for that day.
