TSA Regs (as of July '07)

You cannot bring markers (aka Paintball Guns) in your carry-on luggage.
Pack them in your checked baggage. We do not consider paintball guns to
be firearms and you can pack them in unlocked, soft or hard sided
luggage. Remember the TSA approved locks if you want to lock it.
TSA: Paintball Equipment

Compressed gas cylinders are allowed in checked baggage or as a carry-on
ONLY if the regulator valve is completely disconnected from the cylinder
and the cylinder is no longer sealed (i.e. the cylinder has an open
end). The cylinder must have an opening to allow for a visual
inspection inside.

Your best bet for your air tank is to ship it via Fedex, UPS or some other carrier OR rent a tank from the field you are playing at if they are offered.

Partially Full or Full compressed air tanks over 40 PSI are considered
"Dangerous Goods" and must be handled special.
