What you will need:
- 1 x #8-32 x 1" Machine Screw
- 8 x Flat Washers (SAE #8 / M4.2)
1.) Remove the CO2 plug.
2.) Look into the CO2 plug. You should see a machine screw. Unscrew.
3.) BE CAREFUL AT THIS POINT. There is a tiny, and I mean TINY, ball bearing inside the CO2 plug that will fall out and you will lose if you tip the plug over unawares. Have a hand ready and roll out the ball bearing.

4.) Replace the existing screw with the 1" machine screw and add washers until you have 8 total. Tighten. Yes, the screw won't go in all the way, but it works.
This will reduce your bajillion turns of the plug to about 3 turns... a much quicker solution (AND cheaper). You could add another washer or replace the ball bearing to make it even shorter; personally, I'm just afraid of losing the darn plug.
