| Yes, it can be done using beefy solenoids that have a 1" throw. But they take a massive amount of current. And will quickly overheat in that application.
Still would be neat to see. Use the lightest main spring you can find, combined with a heavy hammer. That will minimize the current draw on the solenoid.
