| Fresh mint is fantastic in cooking many things (other than just Mojitos, although those are worth it in themselves). Also mint is nearly impossible to kill off once it takes rout.
I think some of the best herbs to grow in a small garden are mint (any or multiple verities), thyme (ditto on different kinds/flavors), rosemary, basil, chives, and yarrow. All are quite hardy plants, great for cooking either fresh or dried, and will grow in tons of different conditions. The only downside to most of them is how they spread in a regular garden. Growing up we had mint migrate from the raised bed garden across the driveway and into the lawn. To this day there is still a bunch of mint growing in a few spots on the front lawn. At least it smells lovely when you mow it. |
