| likes been said, it goes through sprees. though i don't think it'll quite have as much to do with the age of the consoles (or at least not only) but with the tastes of the gamer. for a while RTS was THE style to play, and you simply couldn't do that on a console. then FPS became the rage, and untill halo, the console controls were too slow, too imprecise, too few command buttons. as consoles have evolved they've gotten faster response, more buttons, more ability to do complicated tasks that PC users have taken for granted for years. right now it seems the pc market is in a slump, which it isn't in terms of actual pc gaming. just look at WoW, is there any game out there with more constant players then that? what PC gaming is lacking currently is lots and lots of new titles like the consoles. but if you're into MMO's, RTS, flight sim, or you're one of those who wants to squeeze every bit of quality out of a FPS, PC is still easily the way to go. me, I can't afford to set up a desktop gaming rig capable of running crysis (from what I've gathered, the current ultimate example of whether your comp has the chops) so for those games I accept an uglied down version of a game that I'll actually be able to play vs the prom queen version that I can't play (same as it ever was) but it IS an uglied down version vs the PC. I'd not even bother with a consol RTS or Sim or MMO. oh sure consoles now have keyboard/mouse add ons, but lets get real, people are sitting in comfy chairs in front of a tv on average 6-8 feet away from them, not at a desk where the kb/mouse combo is designed for.
at some point tastes will switch and they'll want something more complicated that requires the versitility of the PC vs the ease and speed (ie. push powerbutton game turns right on) of consoles and the shift will swing back the other way.
