last weekend here is what i had to deal with while trying to general and my recomendations made regarding these issues. perhaps you guys can use some of these ideas in your game.

tourney refs at a scenario game: theres gonna be problems. its two different worlds. even though the producer briefed them, they were still slacking and confused. my solution: dont address problems with individual refs. ask the problematic ref to radio his head ref or boss for assistance. this makes the problematic ref fear getting in trouble and do his job. explain to them that good refs do get awards for exemplary performance.

bad base refs: if your ref gives you missions late or just is not on top of the game, he may just be confused. i re-briefed a ref and then he was right on top of things. just give him a break down of whats up. i also will spend my own money to stock my cp with cold gatoraide and share it with my players AND the base ref. this makes him think you care about his well being.

bad calls: i see alot of refs that dont know **** about the scenario they are reffing. i.e. a satchel charge can blow a cp but a rocket cannot. i had a ref run into my cp and scream i was dead. as a general they would have got points for a cp kill and a general kill. i asked "what blew my cp?" he said a law and tried to get hard. i simply asked him to radio the producer to confirm. he was shot down on the spot and understood the rules afterwards. so again, rebriefing or going over thier head works. dont argue with them, just ask them to confirm with the producer.

stunts: before i pull a stunt like planting a demo or taking a cp or dealing with a prop, i will get a ref. if a ref dont see it go down, might as well have not happened. i will make sure the ref is making eye contact with me, explain my move and make sure he is listening to me BEFORE i attempt anything. that way, if there is any question as to the legality of what i am going to do, he can ask the producer. also, if your pulling airstrikes or remote stunts, make the ref physically go and tell the right folks. i pulled an airstrike that went bogus cause the opfor was monitoring the ref channel (illegally, see previous post) and fled the area when he called it in. they are getting paid to work for you, so they shouldnt have a problem taking a brief stroll.

refs working for the opfor: by giving away your position or any intel. not much you can do about a ref giving away your position when your running a mission at a certain location. they are supposed to be at the mission location when the card is handed out to observe and judge. i will ask, politely, if the ref can please back off about 100ft for us. if he does not, take the issue to the head ref. purposely giving away vital intel is a big no no. refs are not players and should keep thier mouths shut. if this occurs, get thier name and go straight to the producer.
