While I think SP-1 is a much smarter design (and price point) for winning over the "rec" group, I'm sort of taking a second liking to the SP-8 as well now. After being surprised by the SP-1, I decided to give the SP-8 a second chance. And having played a bit with one now, I have to say that as far as "milsim" goes, it's probably the most comfortable design I've used. For better or worse, it feels more like a "real" gun than any modified marker I've tried, short of Tactmark/Milsig. I guess that's natural since it's based on a real world (albeit canceled) AR design, but I think my initial reaction of "big and dumb" was a bit unfair to the marker. I feel like the stock will probably crack if I take a hard dive with it, but we'll see. Compared to the SP-1, the architecture might as well be of alien design, which obviously doesn't mesh well with rec players. But in hindsight, it was a pretty impressive first step.
I'm pretty excited about what SP's next step in this market will be. The SP-8 is a very functional, well designed marker, and I've liked the SP-1 nearly from the start. If they can hone that design and create some middle line product, I have a feeling that marker could become my new favorite.
