One of the reasons the government wants to track cars with GPS' to tax them is because they're becoming too fuel efficient. Thankfully hybrids are a dead end and are only bought by people to feel smug about themselves.
I've been to Europe a few times and see what they pay...my family all live in Portugal. Same price per liter as it is per gallon over here (4 liters in a gallon by the way). I can get 15 mpg out of my 7.4 liter V8 truck...I would have to get about 60 MPG to pay as much per mile driven as I would in Lisbon, 45 MPG in London.
So I can either have to deal with a tiny little Renault piece of garbage with sliding glass windows and a shifter that sticks out of the dash that can't even make it up a steep hill with 4 people in the car, or a big @$$ obnoxious 4x4 SUV that can carry 6 easily and tow 10,000 lbs. I wonder what the guys from Top Gear would choose (even though they hate American cars)?
People don't realize when they advocate for smaller more fuel efficient cars in the US that gasoline will end up costing them just as much per mile driven once they raise the taxes to European standards.
