Double regging - not a good idea. You'll end up starving the VM. To double-reg properly, you need at least a spread of 200 psi between regs, and you won't be able to do that, since the VM needs at least 700psi to operate.
If you're handy with a drill and tapping holes, you could always installed a vertical adapter into the lower tube of the VM - get a Minicocker vertical adapter, drill and tap a 1/8NPT hole. That would allow you to install a vertical grip of some sort.
Something I might do, I'm not decided yet. I really like the Black Rain EXC I've got on there now.
BTW - PPS sells an adapter like someone mentioned, that allows you to run a tank or gas-thru grip/reg at 90* from the ASA. Could always get that, and avoid any permanent mods to the VM.
