Well I got the gun a few days ago. Apart from being filthy, nothing looked really wrong externally. I imediatelly put it on the bench for a tear down. Got everthing out of it execpt the valve ( need to lay my hands on a *long* 3/8" bolt ). After that, I'll start with polishing all the internals, and cleaning out what looks like 2 decades of crud.
I'm betting this beast was a field rental, judging by the serial number etched on the side.
I did try to fire it, and typical for a VM, it wouldn't recock. Looking at the internals, nothing seems to be really wrong. I think I try the polishing, cleaning, and changing all the O-rings first and see if that fixes it.
Next step, getting a lighter hammer, and an Automag spring.
No, I don't want to lighten my own damn hammer. Drilling stainless steel for hours is not my idea of a good time.
Anyone know where I can buy an aluminum hammer?

Long hair will make thee look dreadfully to thine enemies, and manly to thy friends: it is, in peace, an ornament; in war, a strong helmet; it... deadens the leaden thump of a bullet: in winter, it is a warm nightcap; in summer, a cooling fan of feathers.
