Springfield XDM Review (updated 11/12/08) - The (M)Factor

Cheaper than dirt usually carries it. I personally favor the XDm over the Glock. Like others I can't stand the grip angle. I tend to shoot low with the Glocks, they just don't point naturally for me.

The XDm is pretty much just an improved version of the XD. You have increased capacity without much of a difference in the size of the grip, a match barrel, and 3 built in safeties. If they had it in .45 at the time I may have picked it up instead, but I feel the .40 is a good compromise between power and capacity.

I prefer the .40 over the 9mm. Purely personal preference, I use Federal ammo for target shooting and Speer is loaded up for home defense. I got a great deal too, I bought it the week after Christmas for $580 which was a little more than $100 cheaper than the lowest internet price I could find and SA was offering a special promo for 2 additional mags and a mag holder for free if purchased before Jan 15th.

So I spent less than $600 and also got more capacity out of the deal. Sure I don't need 65 shots at the ready, but it's nice to have the option. I also like to rotate my mags though so it allows me to keep 2 loaded at all times.

Overall you can't go wrong, it boils down to what you're most comfortable with. I won't knock on either pistol. They are both exceptional pieces and they both shoot better than I do.

*Also if you are looking into the Ruger, pay attention to what serial # you're trying to buy:
Ruger - SR9® Product Safety Warning and Recall Notice
I knew about the Ruger recall and thanks for the cheaper than dirt reccomendation. 22$ for a box isnt that bad compared to what I'm paying locally for quality .45

We have 40 coming out our ears though.
I really like the feel of the FN but I agree it's probably best to put it on hold since there is a good chance of the ban on it.

I'm pretty dead set on 9mm though.

I think I'll end up going with the glock though be honest. More accessories out for it, 9mm is a common round, it's high capacity, ability to take 33rd mags (overkill yeah, but still cool) Only thing I plan to do with it off the bat is probably put the 3 1/2 pound trigger kit in it and some Trijicon night sights if I can get a good deal on them.

One of the main reasons I'm going with the Glock is the price though the second main reason being the extra safety on the SR9 and the stupid hump thing on the back of the XD (I can't think of the name but I found it very uncomfortable)

Also, since the glock sits lower on the hand you'll get better accuracy and less recoil

Glock 17 it is unless I can find a steady supply of cheap Five-Seven ammo

Edit:
Probably get some Krylon paint and color that frame too
