Mac army to the rescue please.

I am trying to install a component to my quicktime to allow me to play .avi format. Maybe i'm completely stupid, I dunno but I can't figure the install out to save my life.

Copied from the read file:
To install this component, just drag the File "XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha.component" into Library/QuickTime. The Library directory can be found either at your home directory (to install just for the actual user) or at the top-level of your startup volume (this needs an administrator account). DO NOT PUT IN: /System/Library/QuickTime.
It is possible that the QuickTime directory does not yet exists. In that case you can create it yourself. Pay attention to capital letters if you use a case sensitive file system (i.e. UFS).

Okay.
I cannot find Library/Quicktime anywhere on the mac. what the hell am i doing wrong? it has got to be something completely stupid simple, but christ for the life of me I can't figure it out. i don't understand what they mean by" It is possible that the QuickTime directory does not yet exists. In that case you can create it yourself. Pay attention to capital letters if you use a case sensitive file system (i.e. UFS)."
If I have to do this, how does one go about doing so?
i've tried searching from the finder window, and get no results. i've tried opening anything with a Q on it and nada. No Library/quicktime to be found, and Quicktime itself will not read the component when I drag it in there.
Any help would be mucho appreciated.
