Spring pack variations: Now with even more super-awesome pics!

So got to pulling everything apart in the old mag, and noticed that the spring pack in my mag does not look like the newer variety.

Mine is a stack of the usual 7 disks, but the inboard disk is really large in diameter, while the disks on the newer spring packs seem all to be of the same diameter.

It almost looks as though that large inboard disk is supposed to act like a washer to flush up nicely against the reg piston assembly.

I've no intention of replacing this but just was curious about the differences. Pretty sure the diagram on the level 7 manual has the large front disk spring pack, so this can't be an outdated design.

Anyone know when/why the switch was made, and if these are fully interchangeable?

Got a pic of the newer one? A flatline spring pack is a little different, but I haven't looked in a long time.

This is the pic from the AGD website:

It's quite different, and all the pics I've seen of the new ones for sale look like this. And I believe I may have one floating around here in my growing pile of spare parts. If so, I'll post a pic, but this one should be enough for conversation meantime. This is the one listed for the AM/MM, so it's the right piece.

Back shortly.

Oh, and russc, you cut me to the quick! This only looks nasty. There's a little anti-seize compound on the big disk, but the greased portion is clean.

At least, I think it is . . . .

EDIT: Here is a real live version of the one in the AGD listing, in the regulator nut, for direct comparison to the original assembly:

And now the plot thickens!

It would be interesting to see how many of you actually have these (particularly those of you with newer mags), but simply may not have noticed.

So again,

No one seems to have seen this other, presumably newer, variety?

It's a ULE spring pack. Makes your classic mag lighter. Trickle down tech, like cars.
