FN303 Update

So I finally got around to firing up the Shoebox today and charging the FN303 tanks. With some nice 3k psi air on hand, I loaded some reballs into a couple drums, got out the little yellow chrony, and told my shower curtain to kiss it's balls goodbye. First trigger pull - burst of air going by the chambered ball. First actual shot - 415 fps..not so good. I learned a valuable piece of information - reballs suck in drum magazines. They are too squishy/spongy and deform under compression, so they bind up the drum, don't exit the drum properly, and generally all around suck ***. However, just loading one type that was a little less squishy and not a full drum helped. Results: FN303 is now shooting approximately 290!

Unfortunately I'm not sure I'll be able to get it much below that. Backing the adjuster screw out much more results in chufftastic fail - presumably the valve spring is heavier than a standard Classic. I suspected this might be a problem since the FN tank gauge has a "green" zone from 1k to 3k psi. This probably means slapping a regular 800ish output tank on there is not going to result in a usable gun.

In the end, it looks like the FN will probably be able to reach playable-ish velocity (depending on the field limit and how it performs with actual FS rounds) with no modifications necessary. If in "live fire" testing with real FS I find that I can't get it down to 280ish easily, I'll look into my planned options, either starting to swap out regulator components on the valve itself to allow me to lower the velocity more or allow for lower input pressure (aka standard ~800psi) or installing a Sideline stab assuming I can get one that'll handle 3k psi input.

Ask palmer for one that handle 3k input
Try finding a longuer barrel to lower fps? unless barrel proprietary

Barrel is "semi" cocker threaded..but it has to be a thin profile to get out of the clamshell. I have a generic 16" CF that might work if that's a problem, but before I start futzing with stuff I figure I'll wait for a real FS test.

yeah I'm pretty sure that palmer's stabs can handle 3000 psi input on most of the models...on a related note, how/where did you get you hands on an FN303?

Magic! Or dumb luck, however you want to look at it. Not something that's repeatable, sadly, or I'd be selling them for mucho dinero on here, heh.

In one of the latest TechPB vids, Mike buys one at WalMart, of all places.

I'm gonna call joke on that. Walmart doesn't leave 800 items on the shelf in an unshrinkwrapped box...heh

Good luck on trying to get paintballs to even stay in the drum before rolling out of the barrel. Since the FN-303 was designed to use Perfect Circle shells, they would need to be exactly the same size in order to not bind and not roll out.

Agreed. That crap was staged.

Why the hell would I use paintballs when I can use First Strike? :p
