A.I.R. Valve help

So my valve is leaking. What is happening is when I try to adjust the velocity and I screw in the regulator nut just far enough, to where I think the velocity would become the playable 280 fps I want, it starts to leak out of the hole where you insert the allen key. I have tried replacing the reg. piston o-ring and it didn’t change a thing. Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be?

That's leaking out the overpressure release... Have you replaced your reg seal? (the big chunky one)

Does it adjust well and shoot at the lower pressures? That would rule out the reg seat (mostly) and the following spring pack problem...

If it does nothing and then starts leaking as you turn in, the spring pack is in backwards.

If it works well at lower pressures, you would be looking at the reg piston relief, which is a little uncommon.

I'm pretty sure that the spring pack is in correct. And imho I really don't think its the reg seat. It sounds more like it is the reg piston relief.
Pretty much what happens is...
150fps, no leak
200fps, no leak
225fps, no leak
250fps, leak
So it would make sense that it would be the reg piston relief. So what now just get a new reg piston?

Did you upgrade to level 10? If so the Piston Relief assembly is likely an older one and needs to be replaced. The newer ones are set to a higher PSI if I recall to accomodate the extra pressure needed by the level 10 bolt assembly.

And this is more likely if it is not marked as a "Classic". The lighter (gold) bolt spring uses less pressure, so it helps a little to use it instead of the red spring in the L10 kit.

No, it's just a lvl7 but I am sure it is an older piston. The valve is a Minimag 4star mm18770 center feed mag #0411

I had the same problem with my classic. It was indeed the piston relief. They can be taken apart and adjusted it's just not recommended as a user serviceable part. But if you do take it apart it looks like this...

The problem with mine was that the little rubber disc seal was worn on one side and that was fixed by simply turning it over so that unused side was the side making contact with the bottom of the piston. If you understand what I mean by that. Just remember how many threads the set screw is turned in so you can set it at the same relief pressure when you put it back together. If you make it tighter it will increase the relief pressure, looser will lower the relief pressure.

Or you can play it safe, spend $18, and buy a new one from AGD here..

^^^What this guy said.

Just run your finger over the rubber disk. You'll feel a circular grove on one end. The grove side needs to be facing the metal plate, basically just flip the rubber disk over and reinstall everything. That'll get you going till your new part comes in.

I made a maintenance video (youtube) on how to do it. Let me know if you need it.

I'm in no rush to use it. Once I get it working I'll be selling it to a friend.
But whats up with the AGD store?
