Pump mag chops a lot

So my pump mag has recently started chopping...A lot. It fires the first couple shots fine, then it starts breaking every single ball till I clean the barrel. Then it fires a couple shots fine and starts breaking every ball till the barrel gets cleaned. Rinse and repeat. It happens with various barrels, and both a Revvy and Halo. Any ideas?

What kind of body? For a detent problem it sounds like it would have to be a ULE body (with the different barrels).

I have had detent problems with plain gravity hopper and twistlock wire detent before. It's really "stupid" to see a ball roll out of a mag like that. Egg shaped balls are sneaky like that.

It is indeed a ULE body. I think the detent is good still though.

Might have the detents set too far inside the body.

Or a good detent not in far enough for small paint. ULE detents don't have a lot of extra play in them, imo.

Sometimes the detent can be sticky. It looks and fits fine, but it sticks and doesn't go back (reset) quick enough.

One other thing I have often suspected is little paint with a foamie bolt that is missing the foamie, so that the first ball rolls back into the bolt face and the next ball sits down too far in front. That's for big messes in the hopper. The weak detent shows up with more barrel breaks and multi-shots.

It very well may have been a dirty detent. I pulled it out, and it was filthy and gummed up. Its much better now. No air to test it though. I also screwed it in a little further. The bolt I have is a long nose Level 7 so I dont think roll backs are a problem.

Be careful with that. Ando has a point there for the ball and it can also drag the bolt (and the detent gets torn up).

Once you get it where you like it, put a dab of nail polish or paint that touches the body and the detent. That way you can look at it and see that it hasn't moved, since they don't sit still when you check the thread tightness by feel. They all actually last pretty well if you keep them clean and set.
