New to Warp Feed
"Good news everyone," I happened to acquire a warp feed!
I had intended to run it on my RT Pro however with my ninja shp reg, the RT effect totally out ran the warp and it was soup city with an near tuned level 10. So, I'm interested in doing the dual battery conversions to get all the performance the warp feed has to offer.
As I understand it there are two mods that one can do to increase the juice. The first is the 'big cell' mod which involves running two 9V batteries in parallel to increase the length of time that the warp will operate before needing power source replacement. The second is the 12V mod, running two 9V batteries in series with a filter to bring the voltage down to 12V which is the maximum the board was designed to take.
The links for these mods seem to be dead; and while on AO-UK I have found pictures of the end product, it would be very beneficial to have the specifics for the parts needed (12V filter?) to complete these mods. Furthermore, a power switch seems like a smart idea, if anyone has a modded warp with an on/off switch or improved power source modifications please share!
I made a li-ion battery pack it seems to work well. 11.1 volts and 750 mah so better performing than 2 rechargable Nimh 9v's I haven't used my warp in a game so I'm can say how long it holds up.
It's similar in construction to this thing. Same cells and probably same PCB.
You could probably get more capacity using polymer cells
12v mod will keep up with just about any rof you can throw at it. Keep in mind, you need to put a capacitor in the circuit. With out it, for some reason the board picks up some kind of electrical 'noise' and the vibe sensor does all kinds of weird things.
I did the 12v mod and never needed the extra speed it brought over running 9v. My warp would get really hot running it too, so I stopped using it and ran 2 9v in parallel. It keps up with my fingers just fine and I used the same 2 batts for the whole time I owned it. I played every other weekend for at least 8 months on the same batteries.
Thanks for the responses everyone! I think what I'll end up doing is fabricating a switch mod that goes between the positive lead of the harness and the board. Then I'm going to attempt to make a parallel and series dual battery harnesses so I can see which one works best for a setup and swap between them.
Does anyone know what component is used as the 12 volt filter? or what type of capacitor to run to clean up the voltage?
100 mf cap for both the in and out side of the 12vreg...
Wrapping that hose around the gun can't be helping.
Thanks for everyone's input. I wired up the Warp on the weekend to take a switch and after much cursing (breaking the leads off the board and soldering them on several times) I now have an electronically reliable 're-manufactured' board with switch!:clapping:
Furthermore, I did up a harness to put two 9V batteries in parallel. I ran black to black to black and red to red to red for 3 9V connectors; but I quickly found out that ran 9V into the board in reverse and required reversal of the harness lead.:o This is where a real basic schematic could have saved my bacon! (I'm going to draw one up in paint and post it for future MCB'ers reference)
I have one 100 uf capacitor and I ordered in a 12V regulator (part 7812). I plan on wiring up the 12V harness when it gets in. Tunaman, can you explain to an electronics noob why one would run a capacitor on the input AND output side of the 12V reg?:confused:
Oh, a little bit of porn: got it all setup on the RT Pro which I purchased it for. The hose bending around the front caused no feeding problems with the 68 Classic and one 9V two weekends ago.:gunsfiring:
