I had better success this time. Here is a possible strike mark on the brass tip of the power tube:



I was quite sure that it was the bolt striking the barrel since the sound disappears when the barrel is removed, but then again I suppose the barrel could alter the course of the bolt enough that it strikes the tube?

Yes; a friend of mine has about a half dozen spare Automag barrels he'd probably let me try, but that will have to wait for now.

grasp the barrel when you shoot. Does the ping stop? If so then it's just your barrel resigning. Some do it, some don't.

Picture is a little fuzzy but I don't see any indication of impact damage to the bolt face or edges - check the inside (as best as you can - with a flashlight_ to see if there is a matching mark(s) to the one on the power tube tip. My Crown point would ring, but my Taso Pro never did.

Valve body dimensions are not consistent, but a straight edge could be used to check the power tube for being straight against the side of the valve body.
