I just traded for my first Minimag, so I figure that, in the pretty near future, I'll be looking for a good barrel for it. My question is what should I look for? I've always been partial to .685 CP 1-pieces on my other gun...but it doesn't appear that they make them in twist-lock. Ideally, I'd like a Freak...but the only one of those I've ever seen pop up on a BST went for way more than I would be willing to pay. What is my best bet for something that is: - 12"-14" - twistlock right - around $20 or so used - small-medium bore (.680-.685) - accurate enough to be worth using

I've been happy with my Lapco. No idea on the bore. My friend uses a J&J Ceramic and he's good with it. I have a cheap ANS one that I don't use simply because: a). I like my Lapco and b). the cuts on the tip of the ANS feel as though they'd shred lead bullets, let alone paintballs. Doc's cocker adapters are another option you may want to explore. They're more than your budget, though.

Will that Doc's adaptor work with a Freak? I've got a Fibur for my Sniper that I'd love to be able to throw on this thing.

Doc's adapter will make the mag work with any autococker barrel. Palmer's is having a 30% off sale right now. I'd suggest taking advantage of that and ordering a nice brass barrel with a .685 or .680 bore. It's a little more than you want to spend but it would be worth it. You other option would be to find a Lapco Autosprint in mag threads. They have a .687 bore but I think that's the smallest you'll probably find without using an insert barrel or ordering a PPS barrel. |

Well then...Doc's sounds like the way to go. I love my Fibur.

If you don't mind the cost and weight, and want a premium twistlock barrel, you can still buy a NIB Lapco stainless Bigshot barrel in .690 id: Polished Stainless Steel, Automag BigShot 12 inch .690 Palmers carries the same barrel, but in aluminum. I know you wanted small bore, but you live in the most humid state in the continental US, so it couldn't hurt having a sweet large bore barrel for the sweltering summers. As a side note about twistlock barrels, these were made by manufacturers back before paint started getting really small across the board. If you want to stick with twistlock barrels, you really won't have any options below .686 unless you find a twistlock Freak back. Palmers will custom make you a twistlock but the lowest bore size stated is .685.
