I've heard that the RT classics are easier to bounce at standard input pressures (850-ish) than their later variations. Seems like now it takes around 1200 or so to get the same effect.
Is this correct? And if so, what physical changes were made to tone down the reactivity?
Well I can get my X valve, and RT Pro valve to RT decently with 850-950 PSI(don't know the exact output psi) on my 1998 crossfire tank.
If you want more reactivity, get a shorter on/off pin.
I think the only difference(other than where the air goes in) is the step at the top of the on/off. The older RTs have a step so you only need 1 oring. Newer valves have a straight hole like the classics. Maybe that's the difference.
One thing is that the classic RTs are more often worn in well. I have a well used and abused x-valve that loves to RT. The newer one is not as easy, and I tend to tune them the same way.
Another thing that has a little effect is the level 10 bolt runs about 10% - 15% higher chamber pressure, making the difference between bottle pressure and regulated pressure that much smaller. An RT with a level 7 bolt should be just that much easier to sweetspot, especially with a lower pressure (850 psi) bottle.
I haven't noticed much else myself.
Not sure if it matters, and the whole thing is subjective, but any classic RT is also going to be at least 12 years old or more. The valve should be well broken in compared to any mag with a newer X-valve or something.
