AGD was know for the free upgrades every time they changed the level of the valve up thru 7. that is why there are so few level 5 and 6 markers left.

Level 5 also has:

aluminum breach with rubber detents
threaded twistlock pin
extra holes in the body to bolt the breach in
only a slot cut in the regulator vs a hole
either no asa screws or smaller threads, also noticeably heavier.
no hex in the field strip screw and a lower profile.

I had a level 5, purchased only a couple months before being factory upgraded to a L7. I still use the frame and rail. AGD did a lot of fiddling on levels and features, and I didn't watch them all. In this list, I recognize the extra body holes and field strip screw, but not the other stuff. Back then, it would have taken more than two years to convince me to pay over $600 for a paintball marker, which is what it took for me to find automags in the first place.

Do you have any pics of these features? I may have seen some, but I have not associated them with L5 automags. I only took the valve out a few times before sending mine off.

Mine has no hex in the takedown pun, no apparent laser weld on the front of the power tube to air valve joint, a shorter reg spring pack, a velocity adjuster that's milled smooth except for 5 threads on the front, no asa mount hole in the front rail, pot metal frame and a funky ss back aluminum straight barrel. That's off the top of my head! DEFINITELY some funky older parts, I'm kinda wondering if I should leave it as is instead of updating it into a shooter..

The velocity adjuster sounds like an old school rental velocity lock. there should be multiple parts to it, either 2 or 3, to keep it all in place at the field.

Ha! Thanks!

I never took it apart that far. It was my fourth marker ever. I only remember getting to the snap-ring on the power tube and wondering if I needed to buy some snap-ring pliers to take care of the marker. I wasn't long after that when the team captain said we are all sending them back to the factory for an upgrade.

Then there was the return shock of big holes in the barrel (crown point) and the feed was now on the wrong side (power feed). They left the field strip screw though, and it eventually got a dog-leg in it. It was replaced before it failed years later because it messed with the valve spacing as it rotated.

Mine may have been an intermediate "L6". I can't recall noticing the change in the breech and detent arrangement. Detents were not a done deal on any marker at that point, so I'm not sure I would have noticed. The F1 Illustrator had a wire detent, but it chopped and broke balls more than any pump.
