Try putting a new gauge on the vert asa and you will find the true
output psi of your Crossfire.

^This. Once you replace the gauge (keep face away when airing up) you will probably find that your LP reg is putting out more than 450.

A mag can handle 3000psi into the AIR valve.

I seem to recall us having problems with that tank on one of our mags...

A lp tank will not work with a RT valve but if you are outputting slightly more than 450, which is around the working pressure of the AIR regulator, you can get it to work as long as the bottle recharges faster than the AIR valve does. I would imagine that the lp bottle is actualy outputting closer to 500 psi than 450.

(or you have the wrong spring in lp bottle and you actually outputting higher a normal lp reg)

Im curious on this one myself.

The operating pressure on a lvl 7 air valve is approx 400 psi (into the dump chamber). On a lvl10 its somewhere around 600psi depending on the spring.

I have had some success with getting emags to cycle into the 20s with a 800-850psi tank using a very very short on/off pin and small lvl10 spring.

Just on a guess, I would say that just about any mag set up would have issues resetting the sear with a lp tank. Especially if you are using a ULT, since the working area of the piston is smaller.

I always love this type of discussion. Mags can indeed shoot at 450psi input, have been able to for years. I have seen a level 7 with a Diamond Labs Hurricane back shoot at 280fps consistently at 15bps with no drop off. And the gauges aren't broken on the reg.

Problem is, that you cannot know for sure that your gauges are correct. All the gauges used in paintball are not really gauges, they are indicators. And they are indicators because they are not accurate enough to be called a gauge. Mini gauges are evn worse, I have seen them as far off as 100psi, compared to other larger ones. The older Ashcroft gauges that Air America used were about the best there was in paintball, but still not as accurate as everyone thinks they are. Now a classic valve with lvl7 can use a 450 psi tank better than an RT or X valve, but it is far from ideal. Will it work? yes. Does it work to best that it could? No. Think about it this way, Does a car that requires 5 quarts of oil, run fine with 3.5 quarts of oil? yes, but you MAY run into problems , or hurt something. And if you werent getting drop of using an electro frame, then your frame wasnt shooting a TRUE 15bps (see BPS WTF thread). Also you really dont know what each balls FPS is, or how consistent the shots are, your just judging by eye. I had a similar set-up with a hyper frame and would get drop off on turbo setting, not alot, but enough to make it an issue. And that was using a HP tank. My point is, all that you think is true isnt necessarily fact. But if you use a LP tank on your mag, and are happy with the performance of it, then keep on using it. But I would recommend that an HP tank be used for all Mags.

Bottom line, just because its working, doesnt mean its working properly................
