Strange on/off

This has been bugging me, why are these two on offs different? This is my brother's valve, the one with the fitting broken off in it.
Can this just be an earlier version? The mystery on/off is in a valve in the 15 thousands, and mine, with the familiar on/off, is in the 19 thousands.

The one on the right is the valve in question.

There is a little metal disc just resting on these o-rings

This pictures shows the way the on/offs sit in the valve. The one on the right is the on I am unfamiliar with.

reactor on/off

fairly common around here and works fairly well.

Is the metal disk needed? The pin is not long enough to hold it in place, and it always falls out when I remove the valve. The top set of o-rings holds everything in, so would it work without the pesky metal disk?

Im pretty sure it needs all of it, the metal disk is held in place when it's gassed, I eventually just switched back to the stock on/off since field stripping is a lot less fun with the reactor.

supposedly the reactor allowed more volume through the on/off. I never noticed any difference, and took mine out and sold it.

Too much of a pain in the butt when field stripping...

Some magazine did a report on them, rapid fire sections did see slightly less dropoff in a classic valve mag with the reactor

But we're talking like 3fps higher average at 12bps firing
