New to mags - questions about Lvl 10 and RT

I picked up an RT 'mag yesterday, my first 'mag of any kind. It has a few leaks that I'm trying to chase down, but I think I've got 'em all.

I have some spare shims and carriers for my Level 10 bolt, but I'm not sure what I should be seeing.

The instructions on AGD's site say that there should be five carriers, each with more bands than the last. I have three carriers with zero bands, two with one band, and one carrier with two bands. Am I missing one or more?

There are tiny holes drilled though the carriers, but I haven't had any luck finding out what they're for. With the o-ring in place, there shouldn't be any way for air to pass through those holes, unless I'm really missing something.

Lastly, anybody got a spare RT sear? Somehow in my tinkering, the tip broke off and it no longer catches the bolt reliably.

there should also be dots along with the bands. One of the two carriers with one band will have an aditional dot, that one is half way between a single band and two band carrier.

tuna might be the best place to get a new sear from.

Yes, you are missing some carriers. Here's a handy pic from AGD showing the carriers and their markings. You should have one of each to best tune the Level 10 bolt.

Either an inflatable bunker or a tree, both work for me.

Man, I looked all over for a picture like that. Thanks!

I wish AO would put it on their Level 10 page.

I put together a basic AGD info thread over on A5OG.net that may be helpful. Takes a lot of different info pages and organizes things a little.

My RT now cycles without leaks. I still have some Level 10 tuning to do, but I don't think it's far off.

It's really pressure hungry, though, and only cycles reliably with pressure turned up so far that the blow-off on the reg piston kicks in.

A few more questions, please:

1) I have two gold (yellow?) springs, the worn one is slightly shorter than the new one. For some reason, the Level 10 spring wasn't included by the previous owner. Could the stiffness of this spring be one of the causes of my need for such high pressure? Should I try cutting a coil off the old spring?

2) Is there any way to identify if I've got the "high pressure" reg piston? It wouldn't surprise me if I didn't (with all of the other lapses by whoever owned this thing), but I'd rather not spend the $25 if I don't need to.

3) Does the the higher pressure reg piston come with the Level 10 kits? It might be wiser just to pick up a new kit for the spares instead of buying what I need piece-meal (at least one carrier, a couple of o-rings, the bolt spring, reg piston, etc.)

If I understand how this works, the regulator piston and its pin are a part of the whole "RT" package, so "gutting" the reg and using an external one is not an option.

Like you've figured out, your mainspring is too strong. You need to bump it down so that you need less gun pressure to overcome it.

yeah get a shorter spring, one loop trimmed off a standard spring. Then check the number of shims your using and what carrier you have installed. The one you want to be able to use is the red spring though.

have you been through this step by step??

Thanks, guys.

Clearush, that is the guide I've been using, and thanks to your description and Zoo's picture it makes sense. I sent an email to the webmaster to see if the guide could be updated.

I'll cut a coil off my worn-looking gold spring and see if that helps.

If anyone can help me identify which reg piston I've got, I'd be grateful.

Not really enjoying my first Mag at all, and really annoyed at the previous owner.
