Question mag newb

I know nothing about mags (I'm a cocker shooter), but I know I want one. My question is what does it mean when someone says a mag valve has a certain number of stars?

There were stars engraved on the side of the valve. When you sent it in for an overhaul, they would mark out one of the stars. For example, if you had a 3 star valve, AGD would overhaul it 3 times free of charge.

I don't think they still offer this service though, so someone selling a Mag listing stars as a buying point is out to lunch I think.
