RT-Classic pissed me off

Ok, got my RT-Classic in the mail today. It's my first mag so of course being an engineering student and mechanically inclined the first thing I did was pull the quick-strip and yank the valve assembly out the back. Oh that was nice, no tools, why didn't the RT-classic style banjo quick-strip catch on again? Seems like a great design.
Slid it back in place and went about rigging it up for air which was a process because it had previously been setup up for a monster 88 running into an armageddon that was unfortunately empty. Had to jury-rig a remote to another 68 bottle that had 3k pressure left in it, no problem. Aired up the gun and there was a pretty quick leak out the back of the gun and the RT was running away for multiple cycles on every trigger pull. After disassembling and reassembling several times trying to isolate where the problem was coming from considering that every o-ring appeared perfect I finally figured out that it was coming from between the body and rail. After running the tank down to less than 1k looking for the source of this confounded leak I finally figured it out. The previous owner had installed a massive gauge into one of the air-ports on the rail. The damn thing was hard up against the body enough that the body couldn't pull snug to the rail causing the banjo to leak. I guess it was fine when the gauge was installed while the body and rail were already assembled and the previous owner had never pulled the valve-train (some nice silver sludge was in the regulator from the springs breaking in). Removed the gauge and replaced it with a plug (atleast until I can get a smaller 1200 psi gauge) and aired it up to joyously find the leak was gone. Had enough air left to dry-fire it about ten time before it started chuffing and fading fast. Thus finishing my first day with my new toy without firing any paint and I had even made sure to save a pod on Sunday just for this.

What I liked:
It's got some heft to it and it's rock solid, nothing wiggles, everything fits exactly where it's supposed to. Gives it some substance. Holding it feels more like holding a firearm than a paintball marker.
Trigger was interesting and seems like it should be fun but it'll take some getting used to. Feels nothing like an electro, a cocker, or your typical sear tripper. I can see why the cocker-mag war was so fiercely debated back when I was still playing with my Spyder Compact.

What I didn't like:
With no air you can't play with the trigger. It's just limp. That's not cool. It's not much fun to pretend to snap-shoot at the cats if the trigger is limp.

I'm withholding final judgement until I can play with it but I just can't see it ever coming first out of the bag. I think it's going to be a fun gun to play with if for no other reason than to screw with the heads of the agglets. I just can't see pulling it out to play an honest competitive game. Should make a great "handicap" gun though for those times I don't feel like playing pump.

You might end up surprised at how much you use it. I fought getting a Mag for years, and after I did, they gradually became my main markers.

See, I want to get mine tuned so I can pull it out, hose an entire Qpod downrange in about three seconds (Zak Vetter style), shrug, put it back in my gearbag and grab my P68-SC. I just want to watch the agglets crap themselves.

About the limp trigger, though, you'll get used to it. Though you can't sit there and cock it and shoot at your TV, it's kind of cool when you gas it up and it cocks itself. Plus, after you play with a 'mag for a bit, you'll have fun at the field when people try to troubleshoot your marker. "Did you cock it?" "I think your 'noid is fried." "Dude, don't hose it off, you'll short your board!" "What did you do to that Shocker?" Hah!

Play with it for a day. Then clean it. Don't forget to fill your tank before going home, a person always needs test air. Once you get used to it, there's no going back. And mags do turn heads. Always.

I got my first mag about two weeks ago, I was part of the cocker crowd. I wish I had tried one earlier I really am starting to enjoy mine.

the best

Once I strapped on a Scuba tank and direct connected to my RT. Talk about intense. That'll definately get you looks, and a lot of people running away scared...

Check out the zach vetter video to see what I mean. Also if you want it faster, other than cranking up the input, send it to rainman for a pneumod!

If I really want to go fast I have the Cyborg. I've seen the Zach Vetter video. It's impressive but not exactly awe-inspiring because of the sputters and stops.
It's got a good feel, I'm looking forward to playing with it even if it is a heavy beast of a gun. The weight difference between the RT-Classic and every other gun in my box is a challenge in and of itself. I do believe the RT weighs more than my cyborg and karni pump combined. I had it out at the field on Thursday while we were changing the x-ball layout and it's extremely difficult to snap with. Pushing it out there isn't that hard but hauling it back in quickly is difficult. Changing the motion from a linear in-out to a circular motion helped conserve momentum and made it a bit more controllable with the extra weight but the final test will be in-game. The weight should make for a steady run and gun platform though and that's really where I excel anyways.

if your an engineering student you will LOVE automags.

they are simply the best engineered paint guns on the planet. every time i shoot or take a apart one of my mags, i spot a new feature in the way the parts go together or something else, that you can see someone actually thought about the function of every single part of the whole gun. you just dont see attention that attention to detail, that level of engineering on any other paint gun.

That's exactly the reason I love my cyborg. Everything has a purpose. I remember the first thing I did when I got my borg was pull it apart. Come to think of it that's the first thing I've done with all my guns. Anyways, I was extremely impressive with how all the regularly maintained parts (except the battery in the grip) could be removed with no tools and that all the parts with o-rings were produced in such a way that the o-rings wouldn't be dragged across the screw threads.

The mag has an issue that I need to track down. It was working great until I put it down for a few hours to play pump on Saturday and when I picked it back up the bolt was stuck. There was air pressure on the trigger but pulling the trigger wouldn't fire the marker. No chuff, nothing. Following a hunch I pushed a swab down the breach and pushed the bolt face. It chuffed and started working. Worked fine through that game but stopped working again in the few minutes of down time between games. This time I gave it a good firm slap to the back of the reg and away it goes. Same thing next game except now it's leaking from sources unknown. Took it down and put it away and when I go to troubleshoot it at home no leak and could not replicate the bolt stick. I was planning to use this mag as a scenario gun but if I can't figure this out I can't trust it to fire after sitting.

I got my Noxx55 stock yesterday so it's waiting on a chunk of macroline to continue the troubleshooting.
