Shootdown problems...

I've got a Classic-valved Mag that experiences shootdown.

I think I've got it narrowed down to my HPA tank reg - it was only putting out around 600psi - and a restrictive bottomline setup, but I was looking at the owner's manual and I noticed it mentions checking the trigger rod gap.

I've got an Intelliframe on the Mag, and I haven't adjusted the gap, assuming it was fine, but I don't think there's a 1/16 gap between the trigger and rod. Is it crucial? I'm just wondering if I'm having shoot down problems from potentially not releasing the trigger all the way. If that's not an issue, I won't mess around with it.

It's an otherwise stock gun - I had thought that the Intelliframe being an AGD product would mean no messing around, but that may not be the case.

You need 800 psi into classic mags. RT's can go down a little lower like 600-650.

Huh?

I knew that - see my original post - just wondering if the trigger gap was crucial.

Did you buy the marker new or used? Some people mess with the trigger rod length to try to give their marker a trigger job.

You're probably right that it is the tank reg. I've never seen shootdown due to trigger rod gap. Of course, all you need to adjust the trigger rod gap is a good pair of pliers or visegrips and screw the trigger rod in or out. It can't hurt anything to get the prescribed gap in there, and if it fixes the problem, then you're golden.

I bought all the parts from Mr.Big, and assembled it. The sear is stock - I had one from a parts kit I got several years ago - so I believe that the length is unchanged.

I'll have my new reg on my tank tomorrow, and try it out before I start monkeying with the trigger rod - I don't want to change too many things without eliminating the most obvious things first, and if it's just the reg that was causing it, I'll be happy.

If you have a caliper then you can check the length of the rod yourself. That is how they adjust them at the factory. The "1/16 gap" is to give you an idea if the rod needs to be adjusted.

Forget fiddling with the rod until you get a proper tank on there. Best to eliminate problems one at a time.

I do have a caliper - what's the spec?

If you are even a bit confident about the trigger rod being in stock location I would leave it as is. Fortunately tampered with rods are becoming less and less common

So it is probably just the too low input pressure.
