| Stock Class Aficionado | What is a Minimag?
I was just thinking about it earlier, what actually defines a Minimag? The recent Mag I picked up from Robertsr has both a Minimag valve and the "typical" vertical ASA w/ short hose and QD, but it lacks a Minimag body. I personally consider it a Classic Mag, as in my opinion the elongated shroud is the quintessential element of a Minimag. Not that it really matters, I am just curious. Thoughts? |

It was a lengthened stainless steel body with slots milled in the front.. kind of like air cooling slots on a machine gun. THe gun came with a short barrel that stuck out the front an inch or two.... with the old SP Venturi barrel the gun looked bad-***!!! E

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I do know what an MM is, but at what point is it no longer a Minimag? Given the modular nature of Mags, is a Classic Mag valve with a Minimag body considered to be a Minimag? EDIT: Not sure if you can even answer the question given the nature of the Mag's design. I guess E-Mag lowers on a Classic Mag is still an E-Mag. If it fits I guess. |

As I remember it, Minimags came from the factory with a vertical ASA. This is what made it shorter overall than a Classic Mag. I think that MicroMags (other then the first generation, fixed barrel ones) are bigger than a Classic Mag. Nothing "micro" about them. |

Since, a minimag valve and classic valve are the same only with a different name written on them. I'd say it has more to do with the body style than the valve. Also, while classic mags are made with awesome from concentrate; minimags are made with pure freshly squeezed awesome. |

That is the thing, the only really different characteristic is the longer body. I guess it was more of a model name when they were being made new... with the countless Mags for sale and endless user configurations available, it seems to have lost any meaning.

well, according to Ebay, a minimag is a flashlight and a micromag is actually supposed to be a microman. Sorry, I just hate their stinking search tool with a passion. Anyways, at this point I just figure a mag is a mag is a mag, and I'm just happy as long as it doesn't have a chopped trigger guard.
