well today I bored 5 barrels and took my x axis apart and HOLY CRAP I am surprised this thing moved gunk everywhere about the consistency of ear wax and one of my fears has been realized while everything was apart I hit the oiler and the front gib of the x axis receives 0 oil so I guess I have to rework the oiling system too. Lucky for me though someone has already did the leg work on what fittings and such to buy on cnc zone so I am just going to buy the parts they have listed and follow their diagram. (I like when other people do the prototype spending for me)

I paid 2200. It has the aloris tool post, about 25 collets, what you see in the picture and some second operation base. Have yet to identify it. It fits the dovetail on the bed.

uhhh what!!! you got a DV-59? is the attachment a turret post maybe? if it came with that it's technically a DSM-59. Nice score... I own one of these and love it.

also: 2200 is wicked cheap... even if it is heavily used (like many hardinges are, they are great working machines). I paid 5 grand for mine, though it's barely used and very clean original paint... super minimal wear all over.

Yup! DV-59. From the same guy who owned the mill. Both are to be delivered this tuesday . He also sold me a variable speed drill press floor model for $60, but that's not as exciting !

The attachment is not a turret post, I was hoping for one but he didn't have it. It seems like it holds something else. It is almost like a lever cross slide but it is round, and appears to have a dish to hold something else.

This one is in great shape, original paint, minimal wear, extremely good reading when we tested the runout on the spindle and on a cut he made for me. With the cross slide on there and aloris tool post, it is now my go to lathe.

I just need to figure out with RPC to buy, or for that matter go and build one.

So I have these 36" x 5" x .5" pieces of aluminum. I need to do a few 1/4-20's in the .5" face. What's the best way to do that? I don't have the tools to do it in my precision stuff, and don't have that type of clearance in my drill press. They don't have to be perfect, but I don't really want sloppy holes either.

If you can swivel the table on your drill press (if the table is rectangular or square), what about clamping it to the edge of the table with the .5" side facing up?
